The great fridge defrost debate I had with myself today

Woke up this morning and found my freezer iced over from a stuck door seal. First I tried the hairdryer method for 20 minutes but that made a mess, then switched to waiting it out with towels for 45 minutes while the ice melted naturally. Ended up replacing the rubber seal for $12 at Ace Hardware, but I'm curious if anyone else deals with this differently when it happens.

Hairdryer works better with a putty knife to pry the ice loose.

Take it from someone who's cracked a freezer panel before, slow melting is way safer for your appliance.

Hairdryer and putty knife sounds like a good way to scratch the hell out of your freezer lining though, doesn't it? I just let the ice melt on its own while I watched TV, took forever but zero risk of damaging anything. Guess @parker_palmer44 likes living on the edge with that approach lol.
