And honestly the whole "you need to spend $500 minimum" thing feels like gatekeeping sometimes. Like yeah a Breville or a Gaggia is gonna give you more control over pressure and temp, but if your beans are fresh and you're willing to tinker with grind size, a cheap machine can still pull a shot that beats Starbucks easy. I got a used De'Longhi for $40 and swapped the pressurized basket for a bottomless one off Amazon for like $8, and now I'm pulling shots with actual crema most of the time. It's not gonna win any barista competitions but it makes me happy and saves me a ton of money.
