Took me 3 years to realize I was overwatering my snake plant by 300%

I finally caught on when my neighbor asked why I kept pouring water on a pot full of mold instead of dirt, and now I just ignore it for 3 weeks at a time and it's grown 4 new leaves.

Oh man, this is so relatable. I did the exact same thing with my first snake plant, poor thing was basically swimming in a swamp for like six months before I figured it out. The soil just never dried and I kept thinking "oh it must be thirsty" without actually checking if it was already soaked. Now I literally forget about mine for a month sometimes and it's the happiest it's ever been. That neighbor comment is brutal though, I would have been so embarrassed.

Also @kelly638 I think people forget that snake plants store water in their leaves so they can go way longer than youd think without water. That swamp phase is pretty much how everyone learns the hard way though. Once you realize they thrive on neglect its actually kind of liberating.

My first snake plant went through a whole swamp phase too lol. The leaves got all wrinkly and I was like "you're THIRSTY" when really I was just drowning it. Now I basically ignore it and it's got like 3 foot tall leaves.
