Pro tip: check your spare tire air pressure at least once a month

I was rolling through Nevada last week and got a flat on my personal car, not the rig. Went to grab the spare and it was almost flat too. Hadn't looked at it in probably 2 years. Cost me an extra hour on the side of the road with a compressor. Learned that lesson the hard way. Anyone else forget about their spare until they need it?

Wait @daniel140, did your buddy notice any difference in how the spare looked before he checked the pressure, or was it just a total blind spot until he needed it? I'm wondering if there's any visual clue with those donut spares or if they just look fine until they're basically useless. Would be nice to know if there's something obvious to watch for.

Two years? Man, that makes me cringe just reading it. I literally checked my spare yesterday after seeing this and it was at 18 PSI instead of 60. I can't believe how quickly they lose air without anyone noticing.

Funny you mention that @the_jennifer, a buddy of mine had that exact same thing happen last winter. He got a flat on the highway in the middle of nowhere, went to pull out the spare, and it was basically flat too. Turns out it had been sitting at maybe 15 PSI for like three years without him ever checking it. He ended up having to call a tow truck and everything. Now he keeps a little tire gauge in his glovebox and checks that spare every time he gets an oil change. Lesson learned the hard way, I guess.
