Spent $60 on a good rain jacket and it saved my whole weekend

I finally bought a decent rain jacket for $60 at a local outdoor store yesterday. I always used cheap ponchos that would rip or soak through after 20 minutes. Today I walked about 2 miles in a steady drizzle and stayed completely dry. It felt so nice not to be miserable and damp for once. Has anyone else had a small purchase like that just make your day better?

That $60 spent is the kind of thing most people don't get until they've been soaked one too many times. A good jacket that actually works is a game changer for a whole weekend. You stop worrying about the weather and just go do stuff. Small purchases like that are the best because they fix a specific problem you've been putting up with for years. Happy for you, man.

I mean I used to be one of those guys who'd just grab whatever cheap jacket was on sale and think it was fine. Never really got why people would drop real money on a rain shell or whatever. Then I got stuck in a surprise downpour last fall on a camping trip and spent the whole weekend wet and miserable. Finally caved and bought something decent and yeah, it's night and day. You don't realize how much mental energy you waste just being slightly uncomfortable until you aren't anymore. So I get what you're saying now, took me getting soaked one too many times to learn.

Used to be the exact same way. I thought spending more than $30 on a jacket was just throwing money away because they all keep the rain out, right? Not even close. First time I put on something that actually breathed and didn't make me feel like I was in a plastic bag I felt kind of dumb for all those years of being damp and grumpy. It's crazy how much being slightly wet and cold wears you down without you even noticing. Definitely a lesson you have to learn the hard way.

That "stop worrying and just go do stuff" part is spot on. That peace of mind alone is worth way more than $60.
