Vent: Got soaked at the bus stop during a sudden downpour and had to decide fast

I was waiting at the bus stop on Main Street around 5 PM when the sky just opened up. No warning, no clouds before, just a wall of rain. I had two choices: run for the coffee shop 3 blocks away and miss the bus, or huddle under this tiny awning and hope it passed. I picked the coffee shop, caught a later bus 20 minutes later, and got home dry but late. The surprise part was that the guy next to me under the awning just stood there getting drenched, didn't even flinch. Has anyone else had to make a quick call like that and regretted going one way over the other?

I had the exact same thing happen two weeks ago at the 12th and Vine stop in Seattle. I ran for a convenience store instead and missed the bus by one minute, then stood there wet and annoyed for 25 minutes while the rain just kept coming down hard lol. Honestly, going for the coffee shop was the smarter move, being soggy and miserable on a later bus is way better than being dry and stuck waiting for ages.

Wait, are you sure the guy next to you was just standing there getting drenched? I mean, maybe he had a jacket that was waterproof or something, but it sounds like you just assumed he wasn't flinching. If he was under the same awning, he probably wasn't getting fully soaked unless the awning was tiny. But if he really just stood there in the rain, that's kind of wild. I've had to make those calls before too, and I always pick the bus because I hate being late more than I hate being wet. I'd rather deal with wet clothes for a few minutes than wait another 20 minutes wondering if the next bus is coming.
