A stranger in the diner said sound travels slower on cold mornings, is that even true?

I overheard this guy in a truck stop diner outside Flagstaff say that and it got me thinking. I always thought sound was faster in warm air, but now I'm second guessing myself at 5am with my coffee. Anyone know the real science behind it, or was he just blowing smoke?

Flagstaff truck stop diner at 5am, that's some deep thinking for that hour, man. Honestly, who cares if it's slower or faster, the coffee's the real science you need to focus on.

Tbh, the coffee IS the only thing that matters at that hour. Everything else is just background noise.
