Does anyone else remember when phone numbers actually meant something?

I was looking through an old address book from 2007 and every single number started with the area code and exchange that told you where someone lived. Like my buddy in Chicago had 773, my cousin in the suburbs had 847. You could look at a number and guess the neighborhood. Now everyone's got a cell from somewhere they moved away from 10 years ago, including me. I still have a 312 number but I've lived in Phoenix since 2015. It's weird how a string of digits used to be a tiny map of someone's life. Has anyone else caught themselves doing the old area code geography thing and feeling ancient?
