Got told I was holding my trowel wrong after 8 years of tiling

My neighbor Mike watched me set tile in my bathroom for 5 minutes before he said I was gripping the trowel too tight, making my joints uneven. I was so pissed at first but then he showed me his loose grip and my lines came out way cleaner. He also pointed out I was spreading too much thinset at once, so now I only do a 3x3 foot section at a time. Has anyone else had some random dude critique their work and actually be right?

Honestly, is uneven grout lines really that big of a deal in your own bathroom? Like it's not a museum piece, it's just your floor.
