I saw my own kitchen light do something weird last night and I can't stop thinking about it
Last night around 11pm I was doing dishes in my apartment in Boise and noticed the ceiling light was flickering real fast, but only when the fridge kicked on. Then it hit me that the light had been doing this for months and I just never noticed because I'm always looking at my hands or the sink. Why does the human brain filter out stuff that happens right in front of us until we happen to look up at the exact right second?
Did you know your brain actually has a filter for stuff it decides is boring, like a bouncer at a bar? The flicker got filed under "background noise" months ago, and it takes something new breaking the pattern to make you look up. The weird part is, that same filter is probably hiding a dozen other things in your place right now.
