Just realized my phone's night mode made me stop seeing star colors
I got into looking at stars from my backyard in Reno about a year ago and I kept wondering why everything up there looked the same pale white to me. Then last week I was out with a friend who has an old flip phone with no screen brightness settings at all, and he pointed at Antares and said it looked orange to him. I pulled out my phone to check a star map and realized I had night mode turned on, which shifts the whole screen warm and kills my color sense for like 20 minutes after I look at it. So I started leaving my phone inside the house completely and just using a red flashlight and a printed paper chart instead. Within three nights I could actually see that Betelgeuse looks reddish and Rigel looks blue-white, which I had never noticed before. Now I'm wondering what else I've been missing because of tiny habits I don't even think about. Has anyone else had a dumb little thing like this mess with how they see something?
