Took me 28 years to figure out I was peeling carrots wrong

I was at my sister's place last Sunday helping with dinner and she grabs a carrot and just runs a peeler down it once. I always go back and forth like 5 times trying to get every little strip. She looked at me like I had three heads and said you only need one pass. I tried it and sure enough the peel comes off in one clean ribbon. All those years of wasted effort and I never thought to question it. Who else has been doing some basic task the hard way their whole life?

My brother literally showed me the same thing with bell peppers last year, I had been hacking at them like a maniac for decades. It makes you wonder how many other daily things we've just been overcomplicating because nobody ever told us the easy way.

Isn't it funny how something so simple can completely change your whole approach to cooking? I actually read an article last month about how most people cut onions wrong too, they said you should slice from the root end to keep it together. Makes you wonder what other kitchen hacks are just floating around out there that we've been missing. I swear half the stuff I learned from my grandma involved way more effort than it needed to be.
