Two flashlights, same trail head, same night, opposite results

I took my old 2 AA Maglite up a ridgeline near Asheville last month and could barely see 10 feet, then I swapped to a cheap rechargeable headlamp my buddy left in my truck and the whole trail lit up like daylight. Same night, same path, but the difference in beam shape and weight made me wonder how I ever hiked that way before. Anyone else had a gear swap that instantly made you question your old setup?

Then your whole pack setup starts aging itself too, it's a slippery slope from there.
