Just realized I make better money doing $40 weekend fixes in my garage than I ever did chasing overtime at the plant
I picked up a busted riding mower off a curb in Visalia about 4 months ago, figured I would flip it for maybe $150. Took me two Saturdays, a $22 carb kit, and a new battery, sold it for $380. Then a buddy asked if I could look at his pressure washer, same deal, $35 in parts and I walked away with $120. Meanwhile at my day job I used to jump on every overtime shift they dangled, 10 hours extra a week for time and a half, and by the time taxes and the drive ate it up I was clearing maybe $180 clear for a whole extra day of my life gone. The difference is I get to pick what comes in the garage, and when something is junk I just say no. The plant doesnt let you say no. My wife pointed out I have done 11 flips since spring and every single one felt less like work than a Tuesday shift. Curious if anyone else here has a side hustle that pays worse per hour but somehow leaves you with more at the end of the month? I cant be the only one doing this math.
