Question about why everyone says to monetize your hobby, because that ruined mine
I fix up old bikes in my garage on weekends and for 3 years it was the thing that kept me sane after hauling shingles all week. Last spring a guy at the local shop in Boise offered me $600 for a restored Schwinn and I took it, then suddenly I was taking orders and stressing about turnaround times. By August I had 5 half finished frames and zero desire to touch any of them, so I sold the whole pile for $300 and kept one bike for myself. Now I ride it to the coffee shop on Saturdays and don't touch a wrench unless something breaks. Everyone in my circle swears your side thing should make money, so what did you do when turning it into a job killed the fun?
