Switched from a standing desk to a treadmill desk and my writing output doubled in 2 weeks
I used to sit at my standing desk for 6 hours a day writing reports for my finance job. But by 3 PM I was brain dead and my back hurt. So I bought a used treadmill desk off Facebook for $150 last month. Now I walk at 1.5 mph while I type and I get through my whole to-do list by lunch. The movement keeps me awake and I don't hit that afternoon slump anymore. Has anyone else tried walking while working and noticed a change in how much you get done?

Heard about a study where people who walked on treadmills while working remembered more details than the sitties. Seems like that low level movement keeps blood flowing to the brain without distracting you. Your experience lines up with what that research found.

Did you ever try just doing this with a regular old treadmill or do you need one of those fancy desk setups? I used a cheap manual one for a while and it worked fine, just had to train myself not to step too hard onto the belt while typing... that took some practice but now it's second nature. The key for me was keeping the speed really slow, like 1.2 mph, so I'm not actually breaking a sweat but the blood's still moving. Also found that if I do it for long phone calls where I can pace a bit it helps way more than just sitting there staring at a wall.

Yeah I have a cheap manual one too and that speed thing is huge, if you go even a tiny bit faster you start bouncing and your typing goes to crap. I found putting a little rug under mine helped with the noise so I don't annoy people in the next room during calls.
