The audit trail mess that cost me a Friday in June

I was at my desk in Columbus, trying to close a client file before 5pm, and the system flagged three missing signatures from two months ago. I spent 4 hours digging through old emails and scanned PDFs, finally found them in a folder I forgot existed. Has anyone else had a simple paperwork gap eat an entire afternoon?

Did you ever find a random file in your downloads folder and wonder if your future self was messing with you?

Wait, are you telling me you actually OPENED it? Because I have a folder full of stuff named like "final_final_v2_FINAL.psd" and I'm convinced my past self was just leaving landmines for me to trip over later. @lindag33, the last random file I found was a screenshot of some error message from 2016, no context, that I clearly saved for a reason I can't even guess at now. It's like my brain intentionally wipes the memory the second something gets saved to downloads. Maybe that's the real mystery, that future us is just a prankster with zero sense of closure. I'm half expecting to find a file that just says "you're welcome" someday.
