County inspector flagged my fence for being 2 inches too tall yesterday
I put up a 6 foot privacy fence in my backyard like every other house on the block. The inspector measured it from the high side of the slope and said it's 6 foot 2 now I gotta trim it or pay a fine. How are homeowners supposed to know these weird measurement rules without getting burned first?

Yeah @jessica130 is right about that drainage thing, I had a similar issue and the inspector measured from the lowest point on the slope on my property line which actually saved me because the high side would have been over. The weird part is they don't tell you any of this upfront, you just have to learn from getting burned or from someone else's post. My buddy had to cut his whole fence down by 4 inches and resink the posts because he measured from the wrong spot the first time.

I'd measure from the lowest side of the slope next time, that's what saved me when my neighbor ratted me out to code enforcement lol.

Whoa careful, lowest side might actually be wrong if your slope drains the other way!
