Hot take: my $1,400 car repair was my own fault for ignoring one noise for 5 weeks
Heard a grinding sound every time I braked near my place in Denver, cranked the radio instead, and now I am out a rotor and a caliper. Am I the only one who talks myself out of the shop until it is too late?
Funny how the brain works when money is on the line. Back in college my roommate drove around with a check engine light for a whole semester and just put a piece of black tape over it. Told himself it was fine because the car still started every morning. Then one day it died in the middle of a busy intersection and cost him triple what the sensor would have been. We all do the math in our heads and somehow "maybe it will hold out" always wins. Five weeks of cranking the radio is honestly pretty impressive though.
