I started meal prepping on Sunday nights and it cut my grocery bill by $40 a week
I used to just grab random stuff at the store during the week and ended up throwing out spoiled produce all the time. About 2 months ago I decided to actually plan out 5 dinners and a lunch option every Sunday before shopping. I pick recipes that share ingredients like using the same bag of spinach for salads and stir fries. It takes me about 90 minutes total to chop veggies and portion out snacks for the week. Now I spend around $60 instead of $100 and I'm not wasting near as much food. Has anyone else tried batch cooking on a specific day and seen their budget change?

Read somewhere that planning meals around sale flyers saves even more.

And once you start tracking those flyers, you realize everything in life works on the same bait-and-switch pattern, doesn't it?

Haven't you noticed those sale flyers are designed to make you buy more, not save more? Stores put the loss leaders on the front page to get you in the door, but the rest is usually overpriced stuff you wouldn't normally buy. Better off just checking what you already have in the pantry and building meals around that, then filling in the gaps with whatever's on a decent sale.
