That 'open concept' kitchen remodel I did 2 years ago is driving me nuts now

Back in 2022, I knocked down a wall between my kitchen and living room in my Philly row house. Everyone said it would make the space feel bigger and brighter, and it did at first. But now I'm stuck smelling every single thing I cook throughout my whole house, and there's zero privacy when I'm cleaning up after dinner. My neighbor still has her old separate kitchen and she can shut the door on a pile of dishes. Has anyone else regretted an open concept layout after the honeymoon phase wore off?

The open concept is great until you realize every midnight snack is broadcast to the whole house like a cooking show nobody asked to watch. I swear, my kitchen now operates like a food court food truck where the smells just wander wherever they want. And the "privacy" of hiding a sink full of dirty dishes is gone, it's just out there for everyone to judge like an art installation you never wanted. But hey, at least you can watch TV while you scrub that casserole dish from three nights ago, right? (silent screaming)

Everything's designed for showing off now, not living in.

But the real question is, who decided we all need to live like we're on a stage? I mean, having an open concept is fine for parties once a year, but the rest of the time it's just you and your morning breath making eye contact with a dirty spatula from the couch. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like they traded privacy for a photo op you never asked for.
