That week of rain changed my mind about umbrella companies

I used to think umbrella companies were a waste of money. But last March I got stuck in five straight days of downpour in Seattle. My cheap collapsible broke on day two and I soaked through three different jackets. Finally I paid $45 for a Gustbuster model from a shop on Pike Street. That thing handled 40mph wind gusts without flipping inside out. Now I tell everyone to just spend the money once. Has anyone else had a cheap umbrella fail at the worst possible time?

Wait, did that Gustbuster actually last more than one season though?

Nah, mine actually held up pretty well through two seasons before the ribs started bending a little... Might've just been the way I was storing it though.

So you're saying the Gustbuster held up for two full seasons before any real issues? I gotta push back a little on that, at least for the one my buddy had. @kelly.charlie I know you were wondering about longevity too, but the one I saw started getting loose in the frame joints after like 8 months, not even a season and a half. The ribs were still fine on his, but the whole thing just felt flimsier way sooner than that. Maybe they fixed the design on newer ones or something though.
