Finally figured out why my invoices were so slow to get paid after a client asked 'is this really itemized'

Been using a generic template for 5 years and just realized adding specific dates and descriptions for each supply run cut my payment waiting time from 45 days down to 12, anyone else have a dumb accounting habit they broke?

@miller.rowan nailed it - that same "specific detail trick" works with my kids too, weirdly enough.

Honestly the thing about "is this really itemized" hits home hard. It's like people just want to feel like you see them as a person not a number on a spreadsheet. I've noticed the same pattern everywhere not just invoices. When you leave a voicemail that just says "call me back" versus one where you say "hey I had a question about the paint color for the living room" people respond way faster. It's the same thing with emails. If you write "per our conversation" nobody reads it. If you write "as we talked about the blue trim" they actually reply. Humans just need that tiny piece of specific detail to trust you're paying attention.

Right, because nothing says "I value you" like a vague voicemail and a spreadsheet lol.
