I thought influencer marketing was a total scam for my shop...

I run a small print shop over on Gratiot, been going since 2019. For two years I figured paying some Instagram person $300 to hold up my flyers was just throwing money away, no way it would bring in actual customers. Then last October I gave a local food blogger $200 to feature my menu cards and got 47 calls that same week... the math actually worked out. Has anyone else here had a surprise win with something they wrote off as hype?

and like the thing is nobody tells you local influencers actually hit different cause their followers trust them more than some random big account. i had a friend who runs a cafe and she gave a small town baking blogger just store credit and got like a whole new crowd coming in for weeks. it's wild how it works when you pick the right person.

Gotta disagree on this one... local influencers can be just as fake as the big ones honestly. Most of those small town bloggers are still chasing free stuff and will hype up anything if it means a free meal or product. Your friend's situation sounds like a one off, but I've seen local people take the store credit then trash the place later when they don't get another hookup. Big accounts at least have some basic standards or a team checking their posts... local ones just post whatever keeps the free stuff coming.

Wait, you mean the small ones actually work better than the big accounts?
