That SEO consultant I hired for $200 turned out to be a total scam

I hired a guy off Craigslist in March to handle my Detroit bakery's website. He promised top Google rankings for $200 a month. After 4 months I had zero new customers from the site and checked the analytics - he hadn't done anything except take my money. Called him out and he ghosted. Has anyone else burned cash on these low cost marketing promises around here?

Man, that sucks but I'm not surprised. For $200 a month I'd be suspicious right off the bat - any legit SEO person charging that little is either outsourcing to bots or doing nothing at all. Did you ever see a report from him showing what work he supposedly did, or did he just keep saying "it takes time" without any numbers?
