A retired trucker in Billings told me his old Detroit Diesel 8V92 would run on just about anything flammable.
He said they'd sometimes thin the fuel with a little kerosene in the winter, something you'd never try with today's common-rail systems. Makes you appreciate the old iron, but also the precision we work with now, doesn't it?

Remember when stuff was just tough? Now it's tough and smart, which is cool but also a pain.

It's the same with everything now. My old lawnmower just runs, but my new car needs a computer to tell me the tire pressure is low.

Used to hate all the extra tech in new stuff too. Then my smart thermostat caught a wiring issue before my house could have had a real problem. Sometimes the computer babysitting things is actually worth the headache.
