Finally got all the used filters in my bay sorted for recycling. It's a small thing, but it feels right.

When does the extra work stop being worth it? I just throw the whole used filter in the bin. Separating parts and keeping special bins feels like a hobby, not recycling. My time is worth more than the tiny bit of metal in a coffee filter. The system is broken if it needs that much effort from us.

Our municipal recycling center requires us to separate the metal casings from the filter media first. I keep two small bins in the garage just for that breakdown step so it's less messy. That little bit of extra effort does make the whole process feel more complete.

Extra steps but worth it.

And at what point do we just need a full recycling station in the kitchen next to the coffee maker. I love the planet but my garage is starting to look like a tiny parts factory for something that used to just be trash. Feels like we're three steps away from needing special tools and a training manual.
