Fought a stuck injector on a 6.7 Powerstroke for 3 hours yesterday
I had this 2015 F-250 come in last Thursday with a miss on cylinder 4. Figured it was just a bad injector, easy swap right? Wrong. That injector was seized in the bore so tight I thought I was gonna pull the whole head off the block. Tried the usual trick with penetrating oil and heat, nothing moved. Ended up having to fab up a puller from a harmonic balancer bolt and some threaded rod, and even then it took cranking the breaker bar until my arms shook. Finally popped out with a bang, scared my helper half to death. Put the new one in with plenty of anti-seize, fired it up, and it ran smooth. But man, has anyone else run into injectors that are practically welded in from carbon? What do you do different to get them out?

Man, I feel that one in my back and shoulders just reading it. I had a 6.7 out of a 2016 that took me damn near five hours on a number 8 injector. I tried everything, heat, kroil, even a slide hammer that just bounced off. I ended up snapping a 3/8 extension before I got smart and built a puller similar to yours with an old harmonic balancer bolt. Mine came out with that same gunshot sound, and I about dropped my coffee. Feels like a victory dance is required every time one of those things lets go without pulling the whole top end off.

That number 8 on the 6.7 is a cursed spot man, I swear. I used to be one of those guys who thought you could always get them out with just heat and a good puller, that if you just had the right tool it would slide right out. Then I did one on a 2015 that was stuck so bad I bent my first puller and had to go at it with a cutoff wheel and a chisel for an hour before it popped. I changed my whole mind after that, now I treat every injector like it's going to fight me and I'm just happy when it doesn't turn into a top end tear down. The gunshot sound is part of the job now, scares the wife every time she hears it from the house.
