Hot take: I was wrong about using SAE sockets on metric bolts

I heard an old timer say it's only a matter of time before you round one off, and last week I finally did it on a 13mm bolt in a Cummins ISX, so I'm ordering a full set of deep metric sockets tonight - anyone else learn this the hard way?

@wood.eric has a point but one bad socket on an ISX isn't a universal crisis, is it?

Grabbed a half inch socket thinking it'd be fine on a 13mm bolt once too, ended up cussing at a stripped head for an hour before I broke out the extractor set. Just buy the right tools the first time, it's cheaper than replacing a harmonic balancer or something that snaps off flush.

Yeah, "just buy the right tools the first time" applies to way more than sockets. I see people do the same thing with cheap drill bits or bargain bin screwdrivers, then get mad when stuff breaks halfway through a job. You end up spending twice as much time and money fixing the mess you could have avoided by just getting the proper gear upfront.
