Old timer told me to run my engine hard to break it in, I thought he was crazy

Last year I bought a 2023 Cummins and this guy Bob at the shop in Omaha said to hold it at 2500 RPM for the first 500 miles. I figured he was messing with me, but I did it anyway. Truck has 40k miles now and runs like a top, no oil burn or anything. Anyone else get weird break-in advice that actually worked?

Ha @jana_jones makes me think of my grandpa who insisted on changing oil every 500 miles no matter what.

Oh man I used to be the guy telling people to baby their engines first 500 miles. Did the same thing on my old Chevy and it burned oil from day one. Your Bob knew what he was talking about.

My buddy Mike did the same thing on his 2019 Duramax, rode that thing at 2800 rpm for the first 400 miles like the dealer told him. That truck has over 100k on it now and still doesn't use a drop between changes.
