Ran a compression test on a 6.0 Powerstroke and got a reading that made no sense until I realized my gauge was stuck
After three retests I finally took the line apart and found a piece of carbon blocking the adapter, has anyone else dealt with a bad gauge giving them a headache on a diagnosis?

Three times I ran that test before I wised up and checked the actual gauge. It's funny how quick we are to blame the engine when the tool is the real problem. This is one of those things where the simplest fix usually gets overlooked first.

Funny you mention that because I used to be the opposite. If something didn't work, I'd tear half the engine apart before thinking to check if the gauge was even plugged in right. That was a hard lesson to learn. Finally got tired of wasting weekends and started checking the simple stuff first. Now I feel like a fool every time I remember how many hours I spent on the wrong problem.
