Switched our shop's 6.7 Powerstroke oil from a big name brand to a cheaper one for a year.

We tracked fuel economy on three identical service trucks and saw a 2% drop in mpg across the board after about 8 months. I'm starting to think the cheaper oil might be causing more internal drag or something. Is a small fuel hit worth the savings on oil, or are we actually costing ourselves more money?

Actually, the math usually works out the other way...

Honestly, we ran into the same thing with our fleet. That 2% fuel hit probably costs more than you saved on the cheaper oil. We switched back to the good stuff and the mpg came right up.

Yeah, we saw the same thing as @spencer_coleman and switched back.
