Talked to a guy who's been turning wrenches since the 70s. Made me feel like a rookie.
Met an older mechanic at a shop in Nashville last week. He was looking at my tools and just laughed. Said he rebuilt a 12-valve Cummins with nothing but a crescent wrench and a screwdriver back in 82. I was showing off my fancy torque wrench set and he just shook his head. He said computers ruin more trucks than they help these days. Made me think about how much I rely on scan tools instead of just listening to the engine. Any of you guys remember working without laptops and sensors?

Betcha he could also rebuild a carburetor blindfolded while eating a sandwich. Did he actually fix anything back then without a YouTube video or did it just take him three weeks and a prayer?
