Tried the 'smoke test' on a Cummins ISX that had me stumped for 2 hours

I was chasing a no-start on a 2015 ISX at the shop last Thursday, compression was fine but it just wouldn't fire. Out of ideas I grabbed a cheap cigar from the gas station and blew smoke into the intake while cranking, saw it puffing out around the intake manifold gasket. Anyone else use weird cheap tricks like this when diagnostics get nowhere?

Ah, that smoke trick is a good one, I've used a birthday candle before to find vacuum leaks on old diesels.

Candle trick works too, just don't forget to blow it out first.
