Why is everyone so quick to ditch rebuilt heads these days?
I spent last Thursday at a distributor in Phoenix watching a guy refuse a perfectly good reman head because it wasn't from the OEM. He paid double for the same casting, and I just don't get it. I've been running rebuilds in my fleet for 15 years, and as long as you check the valve seat depth and torque specs, they hold up fine. Is there something I'm missing about the newer cores, or is this just brand loyalty costing people money? Has anyone else noticed this shift in the last couple years?

Ten years ago I was the guy paying double for OEM, but after a few identical failures on brand new castings I finally tried a quality rebuild and haven't looked back. These days I check the seat depth like you said and honestly can't tell the difference.
