Buddy's 'painterly' filter made my photo look like a crayon mess
Honestly, I see so many people slapping those heavy painting filters on their digital art in Photoshop thinking it makes them look skilled. A friend of mine did this to a portrait last week and it came out looking grainy and flat, not artistic at all. Does anyone else feel like filters kill the soul of the piece, or am I just being old school about it?

My buddy's kid did the same thing on his phone with a free app and called it "fine art" - it's like people forgot you actually have to practice drawing to get good.

Respectfully disagree a little here. My kid spent months learning color theory and composition on Procreate before making stuff that actually looks good. The TOOLS got easier but the SKILL still takes work. Drawing with a pencil and drawing with an app both require practice, just different kinds of practice. Digital art is still art, you still have to put in the hours.
