I started uploading 3 variations of each digital painting and my engagement doubled

I kept getting frustrated that my art showcase posts would get a few likes and then disappear, even when I spent 20 hours on a piece. About a month ago, I decided to upload the same painting in three different color palettes to see which one people actually preferred. One version got 400 views while another version of the same piece got 40, which completely surprised me. Now I'm wondering if this is actually a good way to build a following or if it just looks like spam to people. Has anyone else tried showing multiple versions of the same artwork, and did it help or hurt your community?

Heard about a friend who did basically this exact thing but with character sketches instead of color palettes. She posted three different poses of the same character concept and the one where the character was looking off to the side got way more attention than the front-facing ones. She started doing that for every new design and her follower count jumped up a ton in like two weeks. Some people did comment saying it felt like she was just farming for engagement though, so she had to start adding a little note explaining she was genuinely trying to get feedback. It worked out for her in the end but she said she did get a few annoyed messages. Did you notice any pushback from your audience about it?

Started doing this with my palette posts too but I mixed it up a bit. Instead of posting three similar ones i did one with warm tones, one cool, and one monochrome. That way it felt less like spam and more like a genuine comparison. People actually dug it because they could say which vibe fit the character better. Got way more comments than usual and no one accused me of farming since each palette was pretty different. Gotta say it worked out better than i expected, my engagement shot up for a solid month after that.

Respectfully, "genuinely trying to get feedback" sounds like a fancy excuse for posting the same thing three times in a row.
