Just realized I hit 10,000 views on a single piece I posted last month

I uploaded a digital painting of a rainy city street to my portfolio site and basically forgot about it. I checked the stats yesterday and saw the view counter was at 10,047, which completely threw me. I mean, my usual stuff gets maybe a couple hundred views, so this was a huge jump. Has anyone else had one random piece just take off like that for no obvious reason?

That painting sold for like 10 million dollars. It's just some colors on a canvas, not a cure for cancer. People get way too worked up about art sometimes.

I've tried to explain this to people before, and honestly, if you're just looking at it like a painting of something recognizable, you're gonna be disappointed. Here's the thing about abstract art like that - it's more about the feeling you get standing in front of it, the way the colors hit you, not whether it looks like a sunset or a bowl of fruit. I deal with this all the time when friends ask me why anyone would pay that much, and my advice is always the same: you don't have to like it, but don't act like it's a scam just because you don't get it. Rothko wasn't trying to paint a picture of something, he was trying to paint an experience, and that's a whole different ballgame.
