My tablet pen died mid-live painting and I rediscovered my old workflow

I was doing a live digital painting demo at a small art meetup in Austin last Friday. About 20 minutes in, my stylus just stopped responding. I panicked, opened settings, tried pairing it again, nothing. I had to finish the whole demo using just my fingers on the tablet. It was slower and messier, but somehow my strokes got looser and more natural. People actually said they liked that part better. Now I intentionally do one finger-only sketch a week just to break my habit of over-relying on pressure sensitivity. Has anyone else had a hardware failure force them back to a simpler method they had abandoned?

My mouse broke once right before a job interview over video call. I had to do the whole thing using the trackpad, which I had not touched in years. Turns out my clicking got way more deliberate and I talked slower because I was so focused on not misclicking. I got the job. Now I keep a backup mouse in my desk drawer but I still never use it, just in case the trackpad magic runs out. Hardware failure is just the universe forcing you to remember how you used to do things.
