Saw someone post a piece with 8 different filters on it yesterday

I'm not gonna name names but there was a digital portrait in the showcase that had so many overlays you could barely see the actual drawing underneath. Has anyone else noticed people hiding bad fundamentals behind heavy effects and calling it style?

Yeah "barely see the actual drawing underneath" is exactly what I'm talking about. I saw one where the artist had like 4 gradient maps, 3 textures, and chromatic aberration on top of everything. The original linework was a complete mess but you couldn't tell because it was all buried under effects. It's a crutch for people who never learned how to render properly.

Wait, chromatic aberration on top of everything? That's insane, that's literally the one filter that just makes everything look like a cheap instagram post from 2014. I've seen people stacking layer effects like they're building a fortress around their bad anatomy, but four gradient maps is just admitting you can't color pick to save your life.

Oh come on, is it really that deep? If someone wants to slap 8 filters on their art and call it a day, who cares, it's not like they're hurting anyone.
