TIL my layer masks were bleeding into each other for 6 months

I kept wondering why my composite pieces had weird halo edges, and it took me 6 months to realize I wasn't locking my layer masks before painting. Has anyone else spent way too long troubleshooting something this basic?

That three month mark was really where I started noticing it too. The first couple months felt rough, like I was just making everything look muddy. But by month four, those edge details started settling in and gave everything a cleaner border without looking harsh.
