Tried making pixel art with Aseprite first, switched to Procreate and never looked back

I spent 2 weeks learning Aseprite for a game jam in Portland. Interface felt clunky to me. Then I bought Procreate for $12 and did the same sprite work in half the time. Anyone else ditch specialized software for something more general?

@danielnelson exactly this. MS Paint was the OG pixel art tool. I still open it sometimes just to block out rough shapes before moving to something else. Procreate's layers are just so much faster to work with than Aseprite's whole setup.

You ever try using MS Paint for pixel art back in the day? I remember making sprites for a dumb little platformer and it took forever but honestly felt more natural than any of these fancy programs. Procreate is solid though, I get why people like it for quick work. Aseprite always felt like it was trying too hard to be a full game dev tool when most people just want to draw some blocks. Different strokes for different folks I guess, whatever gets the job done.

Honestly it's kinda funny how we all just stick with the tools we learned on even when better stuff comes out. Tbh I see that everywhere now, like how people still use old GPS units instead of their phone maps because that's just what they're used to. Ngl the comfort of something familiar beats fancy features most of the time, at least for me.
