Walked into a gallery opening in Portland and saw digital paintings blown up to 6 feet tall that looked like oil on canvas from across the room

Half the artists there argued it cheapened the medium while the other half said it finally got digital art the respect it deserved in a physical space, so which side actually has it right for showcasing work?

My buddy tried to hang his digital print in a local cafe and someone walked up and touched it thinking it was real oil paint. The look on his face when he saw the screen glare was priceless. Now he just lets people guess and laughs either way.

Ngl @kelly638, I read somewhere that some museums are putting fake texture on digital art to mess with people like that.

Old buddy of mine runs a small gallery space and he had a similar moment last year. Someone spent a good five minutes trying to wipe a smudge off a digital piece before realizing it was part of the image. He just stood there watching with a grin the whole time, never said a word.
