Why does nobody talk about bad lighting ruining good art at conventions?
I went to a small artist alley in Portland last weekend and half the vendors had their prints under those harsh yellow booth lights that wash out all the color. One artist next to me had this gorgeous piece with deep purples that just looked muddy and flat under that setup. Are we just supposed to bring our own portable lights or do organizers need to step up?

Yeah, have you tried bringing your own setup? I learned the hard way after my first show where everything looked like garbage under those flickering tube lights... grabbed a couple of warm white LED panels off Amazon for like thirty bucks and it changed everything. Organizers usually don't think about lighting because they're focused on getting tables filled, but honestly a lot of them will let you clamp stuff to the frame if you ask nice. I've also seen some artists just drape white fabric over the booth lights to soften them, which is a cheap fix if you forget your gear.

Went to a con once where an artist taped parchment paper over the lights and it looked like a dreamy fog machine lol

Man I read somewhere that a lot of those con lights are just whatever cheap fixtures the venue already had, like they don't even think about color temperature. It tracks though, I've seen artists clip those little battery powered fairy lights around their booth just to get something decent going.
