Finally got retargeting to work after 6 months of trying

My retargeting ads were tanking for months. Like 0.5% CTR tanking. I was about to give up on Facebook ads entirely. Then I tried splitting my audience by how they landed on my site. Organic visitors got different ads than people from my google ads. It doubled my conversion rate in 2 weeks for a small ecom client in Austin. Anyone else had luck with audience segmentation like this?

Started noticing the same thing happens with regular stuff too. Like how people who find you through a friend react different than people who just typed a question into Google. They want totally different things even though they both ended up at the same spot.

Yeah I read something similar recently from a marketing blog that broke it down. People coming through a referral already trust the person who sent them, so they're ready to buy or sign up faster. But someone from a search engine is still skeptical and needs more proof before they pull the trigger. Makes sense when you think about how different their mindset is walking in the door.

Actually splitting by traffic source makes sense but I think the real game changer is breaking it down by device and time of day... saw mobile users who clicked late at night convert way different than desktop users during work hours.
