Hot take: That client who wanted 'more blue' taught me something real
Had a meeting last Tuesday with a local bakery owner in Austin. She kept saying her site needed more blue, but when I asked why she just shrugged. I pushed a little and she finally said her grandma had a blue apron and it makes her feel safe. That stuck with me because it wasn't about design rules, it was about her memory and trust. Anyone else ever dig into a client's weird request and find a real story underneath?

Look at it from the other side. That bakery owner paid you for design expertise, not for therapy about her grandma's apron. If I hire a plumber, I don't want him digging into why I prefer a blue faucet handle over a chrome one. I just want the pipe fixed and the water to run right. Her job is to make cakes, your job is to make websites. You charged her for your professional opinion and then you basically ignored what she actually asked for because you decided her reason wasn't good enough. That's kind of disrespectful to her paying you. Sometimes a client just says "more blue" and that's the whole story. You don't need to become a therapist to slap a color on a website.
