Rant: I used to write blog posts for a client in Phoenix that were 800 words minimum, no matter what.

The agency I worked for insisted on that length for SEO, so we'd just pad them out... it felt pointless. About 18 months ago, I saw their traffic drop and switched to making posts that actually answered the question, even if it was only 400 words. Now their organic clicks are up 30% from last quarter. Has anyone else moved away from that strict word count rule?

Yeah, I read something about how Google's helpful content update basically killed the whole "write long just to be long" thing. They said the algorithm now looks for pages that solve a problem quickly, even if it's short. Your results totally prove that.

Notice how @milesk27 mentioned solving a problem quickly. That made me check some old forum threads I used to visit. The best answers there are often just a few lines of clear steps, not giant articles. Google might finally be catching up to how people actually talk when they need help.

My old forum bookmarks are still the first place I check for quick fixes.
