Remember when we all thought Facebook ads were just for boosting posts?
I was at a marketing meetup in Charlotte back in 2016, and a speaker showed his ad account. He was spending $500 a day but his cost per lead was under $2. He explained he wasn't boosting posts at all, he was using the ads manager and building custom audiences from scratch. That night I went home and tried it. I set up my first real campaign targeting people who visited our site but didn't book a call. It completely changed how we do paid social. Anyone else remember that shift from just boosting to actual campaign structures?

Targeting people who watched 75% of a video" just sounds like a lot of work for an ad. It's not that deep, it's just social media.

I remember that exact meetup, the guy had a spreadsheet open and everything. My big "aha" moment was realizing I could target people who watched 75% of a specific product video. Before that I was just boosting cat pictures from our company page and wondering why it didn't work.

My buddy was still just boosting posts in 2018. I finally sat him down and showed him how to make a lookalike audience from his email list. He was shocked when his first real ad got a $5 cost per sale, he said it felt like cheating the system.
