That one client who argued with me about their website font for 45 minutes
I had a call last Thursday with a lady who runs a bakery in Cleveland. She hired us to redesign her site, but she kept insisting we use a font that looked like it belonged on a birthday card from 1992. I showed her three alternatives that were cleaner and more readable, but she dug in her heels and said the fancy script was her "brand identity." After going back and forth, I finally pulled up a mobile version of her site and asked her to read the menu items in that font at actual phone size. She squinted, went quiet for a second, and then said "oh, that is hard to read." We went with a simple sans-serif after that. Has anyone else had a client get super attached to something that obviously doesn't work?

Heard that. Sometimes you gotta let their own family be the tiebreaker, it's the only thing that works.

Oh man, the "brand identity" argument kills me lol. I had a client who owned a landscaping company fight me over a shade of green that literally blended into their background image on their homepage. They said it was "the green from their grandfather's old truck" and they couldn't budge. I had to make a side by side comparison with their actual website photos to prove you couldn't read their phone number. She finally caved after her own husband said he couldn't see it. It's wild how personally people take this stuff.

Grandfather's old truck" is exactly the kind of thing that makes people dig their heels in. Sometimes you just gotta let a third party be the bad guy.
