Why I stopped pitching 6 month retainers to small businesses

I used to push long term contracts on every client because I thought it was the only way to make stable money. Then last spring a local cafe owner told me straight up 'I can't commit to that, I need to see results in 6 weeks or I'm out.' That conversation made me try a 3 month trial package instead. Now I do month to month for anyone under $3k monthly spend and it's brought in way more clients overall. Has anyone else switched from long retainers to shorter terms and seen better retention rates?

Hear that, @danielnelson? Sounds like they were just looking for an out from the start, not a real partnership.

My last 6 month retainer client bailed after four months and left a bad review too.

@charles_mitchell "bailed after four months" sounds more like them breaking the deal, not you.
